As I was showing it off to a friend, he asked what kind of car/category is it; like SUV, econobox, etc.,? I replied I didn't know but that the EPA classifies it as a small station wagon. So what are cubes/scion xb called? Is the honda element one also? Or is it too big.

It is considered a compact economy vehicle. Official sources have placed it in the same category as the Scion xB and the Honda Fit. The Element is considered a crossover as it is to big to be considered a compact, and the Kia Soul as been placed in a category all its own as it apparently does not fit into any of the current categories.

Look at your paperwork from the dealer and it is classified by Nissan as a truck.

Does not matter from there, agencies will classify it all over the map.

I thought it was funny when I saw the invoice and it said TRUCK, must be an import tax break or something for Japan to classify it that way.

Kia Soul = Category Junk or BIC. Drive it till the tires are bald than throw it away. A Neighbor has a Kia and it is the biggest pile of junk I have ever worked on.

On Nissan's site, it falls under the "Cars/Minivan" section, under "Cars" for whatever that is worth.

The window sticker on my cube referred to it as a "Tall Wagon" which seems about right!

I've heard that term used in other places, especially when referring to similar boxy, Japanese cars.
