I recently put NRG hood dampers on my Cube, and I like them. What I find weird about these dampers, and all other aftermarket dampers I have seen, is where they are placed.

They are mounted toward the front of the engine bay, with the other end at the rear of the hood - near the passenger compartment. This allows for the least amount of leverage in holding the hood up. The OEM dampers I have seen work just the opposite. The damper is attached to the front of the hood and the rear of the engine compartment - supplying maximum lifting/holding power.

I'm sure there's a reason why the aftermarket does it this way, but more leverage would allow for a more secure lift.

That makes sense. I'm thinking about putting a pair on my son's Civic, but I want to do it all myself - no kit. Lots cheaper that way.
