hey i was wondering if anyone has had problems in 1st gear. from a dead stop when i try to accelerate my cube feels like its in 2nd or 3rd gear. i literally have to turn the key off and back on and when i do that its back to normal. it doesnt happen all the time just recently. i have about 8500 mi on it. is something going on with the cvt?

Is it possible your break light switch is not working?

I have done some research on the Nissan CVT and I have heard of the car acting like this if the CVT does not realize you pressed your breaks. Have someone look at your tail lights and see if the break light comes on?

Also, check with your dealer to see if there has been a PCM reprogram release, I'm an ASE master tech and see these all the time.

Since we're talking about a CVT here, how can this be a "first gear" issue?

I was reading on the Versa forum a couple of months back (sorry don't have a link right now I will add it once I find it again) and someone there had a similar problem when their break pedal switch was not working. They took it to the dealer and replacing that switch solved the drivability issue.

Its not a "first gear" thing but more of a failure of the CVT to change ratios all the way down to the point where it is ready to accelerate from a dead stop. So, to someone who has driven only regular automatics, it would feel like the car was stuck in "second gear" until the car got up to speed.
