I have noticed a rattle in the emgine when stopped. So I did a little checking to see under what circumstances it makes the noise. If I sit in neutral with the clutch out no noise. If then put the clutch in but still in neutral no noise. But if I keep the clutch in and then put it in any gear the noise starts. Also noiced that at idle with clutch in and then put in gear the engines raise slightly in RPM's. It suppose to do that not really sure. Has anyone else noticed the noise ?

Only thing that comes to mind is loose nut behind wheel. :D LOL. When I used to drive a man trans I would have looked to the throw out bearing or a broken spring in the clutch cover. Its been a long time though and I'm not even sure how the clutch assembly works in the Qb. I suggest a run by the dealer if no one else is having the same expierience. 8)

For my cube close to 6000 miles, I do get noise but wouldn't call it a rattle.
It sounds like water bubbling when you are boiling water. My car is a manual as well.
I tend to hear it after the car is warmed up. Only hear it when the car is stopped in neutral and also in gear while not moving. The noise does not appear 100% of the time but maybe 60-70%.

Planning to take it to dealer for checkup in the next few weeks.

Mine is CVT, but I mostly own manuals. Could this be the throw-out bearing you are hearing?

Not owning a manual cube I am going with my many years of experience in manual trans to answer this.
Interested in hearing what people discover on this. Seems insane for a throwout bearing to be in trouble after so few miles. Also, given that's one of the oldest auto technologies around, it's hard to believe Nissan would screw it up :(!

Please keep us informed folks :)!

I am not familiar with throw-out bearing you are referring to.
I did own several manuals before this and none of them had such strange noise I am seeing.

The job of the throw-out bearing is to disengage the engine when you press in the clutch pedal. It pushes against the pressure plate springs/levers to free the clutch friction surface from the flywheel driving surface. This is why you never want to sit with your clutch pedal pressed -- it accelerates wear on the throw-out bearing (both pressure plate and bearing spin with the flywheel when the clutch pedal is pressed). Better to shift to neutral until you're ready to re-engage the drivetrain.

I've been getting this same bubbling sound also and it's kind of loud. When I went to Nissan and told them the sound, they obviously didn't hear it at all. Also, I get a very loud screech when I'm hitting the brakes. I went to Nissan for that also and they couldn't hear anything. It seems that the brake noise happens later on in the day, maybe when the car is warmed up? I need to go there today and get a technician to go with me so they can actually hear the sound rather than drive it 20 feet and can't hear anything...

So yea, bubbling sound from the engine and screeching breaks...I've had both sounds since 3-4,000 miles and counting...

Sounds like my issue is not related to throw-out bearing because I also hear this noise when my car is in neutal and my foot off the clutch. I've tried few experiment with the clutch/gear press/depress but still unable to root cause.

For those of you who deal with intermittent sound issues, have you tried going on a road test with a technician? If you know what it sounds like, you can point it out. It'd probably make the diagnostic process more effective.

UPDATE:

Ok, so that screeching sound was actually the brake shoes that needed to be replaced and Nissan does have a recall for that so everyone that has that sound still, take it to Nissan....

The bubbling sound that I had since 3k is still there and the crazy thing is, is that Nissan finally heard it and replaced the alternator, ac, water pump, timing belt..etc...and still couldn't figure out where the noise is coming from. I received a call from them on Monday and a technician from Nissan is coming from San Francisco to test drive my car and try to fix or locate where the bubbling noise is coming from...

Will update next week and see what the verdict is...
