Possible to disable seat belt ALR mode?

The passenger seat belts have an Automatic Locking Retractor mode for use when installing child restraints. If you pull the belt all the way out then it ratchets as it is released and can not be pulled out until it has been fully returned when in this mode.

Problem is that I am a big guy, and the belt is just one click away from fully extended when I buckle it. Sooner or later it switches to ALR mode and starts to squeeze all the air out of me as it ratchets tighter. Very uncomfortable.

Is there any way to disable the ALR mode?

I wasn't even aware of the ARL mode... but I have seen seat belt extenders. I'm not sure if that would help but it might be worth looking into if there's no way to disable the ARL mode.
There is an eight inch extender. Not in stock at my local dealer, but he can order it for $80.

Seems like a lot of money for this accessory. When I bought a new Saturn some years back they provided it as a courtesy. Airlines do the same if you need it, but Nissan needs to make their money I guess. (Saturn went broke, and we know how the airlines are doing....)
Hey, $80.00 to make your life easier? Sounds like a bargain. buy it, and breathe easier . . .

The problem with the ALR is that it is a mechanical modification. It is also one that has become a staple of the industry for at least 15-20 years. I doubt that you will be able to find a replacement withou the ALR mechanism, but someone might know of a way to permanently disable the mechansm. I would personaally just go for the seat belt extension.
Follow upon the seat belt extender

I purchased the seat belt extender (86848-CD00) and it came in today. This assembly is for the 350Z/Murano/FX35/Quest/Maxima/Titan/Armada. You would expect that it might fit the Cube too, but it does not.

The blade on the belt will not go deep enough into the buckle on the extender to latch!

Back to the dealer tomorrow to see if there is an extension made that will work on a Cube.
