Overheated then engine light

Hi,

I have 2004 cubic. It has just had the belts changed and a full service a few weeks ago. I broke down recently as car seem to be overheating and the engine light came on. Ended up there was no fluid in the rad. The engine light is still on. Could it be a problem with the temp sensor as well? Do you need to reset the engine monitoring, or there now a bigger problem.
Thanks,
J

Difficult to say. Overheating running with no cooling for all but the shortest amount of time can definitely cause major problems to say the least. It just depends on how hot things got. If a bearing sleeve melts though time for a full engine rebuild (which I'm assuming would prefer to be avoided and isn't likely worth the money) Did your temperature gauge not show it over heating? Haven't owned a cubic. Catastrophic coolant leak somewhere? A hose break?
Thanks for the reply. The 2004 doesn't have a temp guage that gives a reading, only cold, normal and too hot. There was no steam etc and no seeming hose breakage / uncouple. Gasket seems ok as no white gunk on the oil cap. I haven't got a machine to plug into the ECU but speaking to someone who has to see if it gives a fault. Hopefully no rebuild☹

How long have you owned this Cube? It seems this might have been an on going problem. Possibly bad water pump, stuck thermostat, hoses leaking, bad radiator? Also check the water pipe underneath by the radiator bottom next bro the motor that could be rusted out and leaking little by little. If it was fully service, they should check that all the fluids were topped off & check for leaks maybe? The Nissan motors are pretty bulletproof not like the transmission which are garbage. If it wasn’t overheating before you had a
the service makes me believe that the service guys might’ve did something I don’t know..
Pray that the engine head is not damage to the head warp.
