I am driving down the freeway tonight and a freakin truck passes me speeding and crap flying everywhere and all I hear is TINK TINK and think OH CRAP. I look at the windshield as I continue driving and 5 min later CRACK goes the window   . I don't think I even want to know how much this is going to cost me.

OH SNAP! Sorry to hear that! I'm thinkin I should recheck my insurance coverage for the windshield. Because of the upright angle of the Cube windshield, i'm wondering if we're more prone than other makes for cracking, etc. I know in my Element, I replaced windshields yearly, it seems. Chips always grew into long cracks.

Let us know how this goes. :(
Being only available for less than 2 months, I bet that window is gold. Good Luck :(

I notice the window is a bug collector more so than any car I have ever known. I am sure it is the angle.

I recommend to not do any type of tailgating...my window also received a nice crack, but this
was a piece of rock from the 5th dimension because I saw this rock appeared from no where
in the distance and then "Paching" there was a nice dimple in the windshield. Luckily I was insured.

I know that cracks were an issue with the XB. I luckily never had a crack but did have a lot of pits in my windshield.

I am calling insurance this morning then calling dealership. I am too scared to make the second call :(
Real bummer is a windshield is usually less than your deductible. But in this case possibly not due to rarity
ouch, that sucks! i'm in colorado and cracked windshields are inevitable here, especially if you drive in the mountains a lot. a few weeks ago, my boyfriend and i were driving on a 2-lane highway (one lane each direction), and an enormous semi passed us going the other way. yep, you guessed it - we were showered with rocks, and one made a lovely dent in the windshield while a few others nicked the hood. thankfully the crack was tiny enough that our insurance covered it for free, although the repair shop didn't do the best job because it's cracking again

on a somewhat related note, i bought my car (used of course) with a fat 2.5 foot crack on the windshield. that was a bear to replace, about $300 since corrado parts are so rare. i'll be glad to sell that sucker!
Ok No aftermarket windows available and from dealer it is $850.00 for window alone not including rubber seal. Only 7 available in the nation 2 being here in LA.

it's a growing crack daily. It doesn't help that we r having 100+ weather right now. Thank Goodness I have the visors it allows me to leave the windows down and not worry about anyone getting in it.

I am going to have to go through the insurance
I had a feeling it would be ugly. Al ot of windshields are only $250 to $300 but demand will keep this part expensive for a wile.
I just took an extended road trip with my Cube and now have two small chips in my windshield. They are very small so I am just going to leave them alone. I wouldn't have even seen them if I hadn't known to look because of the rock thrown at me by a semi.

I too noticed that I am catching more bugs that any car I have ever owned. I'm thinking the angle of the windshield will definitely make this car more prone to chips and cracks.
This is a problem with MINI's as well. I've been though 4 in the 6 years I've owned my car. I'm expecting the Cube to have a wind-sheild that gets replaced yearly.
If this vehicle has been produced in Japan for ten years you would think this would be an issue they would have addressed. My laid back fit window never gets a bug on it but the cube is an insect magnet. I understand the science behind it and the air compression field that occurs on a slanted glass window. The cube has none of that in its favor.

The properly angled window and just amazingly fired bullet will render cop cars windshield bullet proof. The previous has been proved by dash cams with direct window hits that just seem to deflect off. Sorry cube is a shot to the chest. :-\

Angles mean everything!
My family has been fans of both MINI's and box cars since the 1st generation Element and we've never had a problem with windshield cracks. Now you can say we've been lucky, but you can never treat your car too well. Frequent inspections (like when you clean your car) can keep a small problem from becoming a big problem. Chips are easy and cheap to fix, especially compared to a new windshield. I know I inspect my car every time I wash it, which is about once every week or two in the rainy summer days of North Florida. Like I said, it's not going to make the car invincible, but it decreases the chance of catatrophe.
Got tagged by a stone from a car on the interstate today. I usually try and stay away from all trucks. Did not make a chip or star but made a small "pit" that I can see and feel when I run my fingernail over it. Not much can be done about it. I would not swap out or try to have fixed unless it starts cracking. I did some checking today on windshield availability. PPG site, Glass America, and other national auto glass providers. None have it in stock yet. I know that on the smart car I had it took a while to get them as well. Smart was $850 from the dealer which is the same cost from the dealer for the CUBE. After SafeLite Auto Glass got them from their distributor they would replace them for $300 so I hope the same happens for the CUBE.
Ouch... this is not the type of rock star most people want! May good fortune smile upon you :)
Sorry to hear that man. In Arizona glass coverage has been included with every insurance policy I have ever owned out here. You might want to check with your insurance company. Not that helps helps this time around, but if you don't have it you can usually add it for cheap. I go through a window a year out here and it's always free for me.
