I was stationed at Loring AFB Maine back in '73. One morning it was 70 degrees below zero in the wind. Mine was the only car which started that day. A '73 Super Beetle. Had it not been for the 2 foot thick blanket of snow insulating everything, I'm pretty sure mine wouldn't have started either. I became the SHUTTLE service up to the flight line that day. Of course, outside activities that day were strictly limited to "to and from buildings". Also, we had heavy boots, parkas, etc.
Also, experienced a 100 degree change in temp at FT Greeley in Alaska with in the space of about 6 hours. From 50 above to 50 below with the wind. brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
