Does anyone know how much the parts for his cost or how hard it would be to install this yourself. My dealer parts guy was less than helpful saying, "I've only been here two weeks, I don't know how much that would be."

It looks like the compartment for the mechanical key and push buttons are in place, but I'm not sure how much work it consists of. Thanks in advance!

I hate to break it to you but, there are just to many differences in the wiring layout to make any effort to get Nissan's Intelligent Key System installed.

I am not saying it can't be done all I am saying is the cost to obtain and install Nissan's system is too much.

One you would have to get Nissan's Intelligent Key Fob which is a remote transmitter/receiver and is coded and recorded by Nissan.
Second the wiring layout includes connections to the BCM (body control module) and then onto the Starter Relay and Starter Control Relay with all conditions being monitored by the CPU

Some of the harnesses are there but not all and to get these harnesses is difficult.
Because of the tight layout of these cars it's cheaper to install them before hand in the factory.

I should have done my research more and I would have gone with the SL Preferred package and then added all the exterior stuff later, but I love my Super Black Krom as is....

Next year I am going to explore the option of a after market remote starter which I can then fit to a toggle switch which will be mounted in that key hole.....

Yes, the door handles have a tiny black button next to the key hole. You touch this to unlock or lock the car.

Originally I questioned this concept wondering why shouldn't the system unlock everything when you walk up. But then I thought there are bad environments where you wouldn't want the other doors to unlock as a stranger/bad guy/car jacker on the other side could quickly jump in the car with you if they all opened!!!!

You touch the button once to unlock only the drivers door and twice to unlock all of them.

Dont forget you would also have to change 3 door handles too.
The door handles are different too? I didn't realize it was such an extensive upgrade.
Yes they have small buttons on the handle to activate and open the doors
Stock S

Push button handles, these are not exactly but like these. Could not find the actual cube ones. You get the idea.

Here is a problem with your logic on that one, and a potential problem actually. never dawned on me before till you mentioned it.

As long as the key is within 31 inches I think it is, the doors will work no matter who is holding the key. That said if you are in the car, the doors will open, bad guy or no. So you potentially could gain access to the car not having a key. The assailant could freely open your door. I am going to have to test this now.

Kinda of scary to us girls, overly jealous boyfriends and all.
I hope I am totally wrong on this one. :(

I believe since the sensor's are on either side of the car and one on the rear it will only open the door to which the person with the fob is within 31" of. So, if you have the fob and you’re next to the driver's door and you press the button on the door handle only once, only the driver’s door will unlock. If you press the door handle button twice then all the doors unlock.

Edit: Just looked in the manual, it say’s:

“When the Intelligent Key is within the operating range, it is possible for anyone who does not carry the Intelligent Key to push the request switch to lock/unlock the doors including the back door.”

So Christine, I hope your “overly jealous boyfriends and all” don’t figure this out

I think it's semantics here: "is within the operating range" of what?

Why have the one or two tap option on the door handle button? Why have a button at all if the key fob is the only thing needed?

I believe the "within operating range" means if the key is within 31 inches of said door anyone can push the button on THAT door and open it. Someone on the other side of the car isn't within 31 inches and can't open the door on that side even if they push the button. The person with the key can double tap any door to open all the doors but a single tap only unlocks the door being touched.

My kids can't get in the rear doors unless I double tap the button and they are standing right next to me (within the 31 inch zone I think) when we get in the car together.

The car wont know who has the key where, just how far form the car the fob is, not GPS location. Think about it, I am at the location of the hood with the key and you can open the rear door. To do the "at that door" trick each door would have to have a sensor.

I want to know what happens when you get in the car and manually lock the doors, does the handle "Switch" open the door? Does the handle switch open the door after the 15MPH has been reached and the auto lock kicks in? In both situations the FOB is in range 31.5 inches

Now think safety for a minute, if the handle does not open the door how does someone render assistance? I know, I know, they could not before either, but think for a minute that this was a built in "Safety" feature.

If the key is INSIDE the cabin, you should NOT be able to unlock the doors using the intelligent key button located on the outside door handles.

Yes it does. Just tried a test. Set key on ground at drivers door. One tap on door handle button opened that door. Left key on ground, that door unlocked, and walked to back door. It wouldn't open even after touching button. Continued around to passenger door and it too wouldn't not open with or without button. Passenger doors wouldn't open either.

Like I said, I think this is a worthwhile safety issue. Our Quest keyless entry system is similar in concept; one click on the fob to unlock the drivers door only and a second click will unlock all doors/tailgate.

Yup I tested it too, Stood on the drivers side and had a friend open the passenger and nothing. I got in and locked the doors and no door would open.

Glad I was wrong on that one, sometimes it is nice to be wrong.

So each door has a sensor, cool 8) it is a smart car after all. Surprised the manual did not explain that at all.

OK so to alresso, forget it buddy, it is not happening without a good bit I work. Forget the upgrade.

See page 3-12 in the Owners Manual. Each front door and the rear cargo door has its own sensor for the Intelligent key. The two rear passenger doors are not "intelligent".
Nice I totally missed that wile troving the manual

LOL, I know what you mean. This morning I was quite startled on the drive to work by the ATC. There was a 15 degree difference between ambient air and my interior setting so once the motor was up to temp (5 bars) it kicked on the fan for heat quite forcefully as I rolled up to a stop sign. I didn't discern that the loud whooshing sound was coming from the floor vents and was freaked out for a couple seconds, looking around for a jet or some other big machine. Then I felt the warm air on my feet. DOH! :D
