Hi fellow Cube owners. I was driving on the freeway earlier today and noticed a high pitched noise. I turned off the radio and noticed the sound appeared when I drove at least 70mph. Driving slower than 70 and the sound would disappear. The sound is very annoying now that I notice it. I was thinking it might be wind noise coming from the windshield. I'm hoping it's not the engine or something serious. Maybe it's part of the breaking in process. Any ideas? Has anyone else experienced this problem? Thanks for the help.

The high pitched whistling noise is a result of how air is moving over the car at that speed. It's nothing to worry about.

Keep in mind you're essentially pushing a box through air. There's bound to be more air resistance when compared with most other cars on the road.

I experienced the same problem but at a slower speed around 3 weeks ago. 2 others were in car with me at the time, and I thought wth? I checked the radio station, no, the A/C, no, I was only traveling at 55 or maybe a little less. It has not happened since.

Great! It's like a cricket in a movie theater...ya don't notice it until someone says something. If I hear a high pitched noise next time I drive the cube I'm coming back here and kickin' some ass!

My dash has a little creak on the right side.

Yeah the high pitch noise is one of those items you'd never be able to duplicate for the service department...

As far a a creak goes, the dealer has a handy dandy noise and rattle kit to shim, and deaden just about any noise that can come from your car.

Hi guys,

hate to revive old threads but my gf is having this same issue as well. She has an 09 SL. Any time velocity reaches 75+, there is a high pitched humming noise that appears to be coming from the windshield. she took it to the carmax she bought it from and they told her that there is noise because the car is not aerodynamic. I don't think they replicated the sound. I, personally, think it's the windshield seal. I tried what zeta_msz_006 said about the throttle, the noise went away once the speed dropped below 75.

Any new thoughts on this or is this pretty much what to expect from this car?

Thanks again.

I can honestly say I've never noticed this noise on my cube. I'm on my 3rd windshield, so if it's related to the seals around the windshield I must have really gotten lucky. I DO have the window visors on my cube, so I'm not sure if that's related or not. I don't usually reach 70+ miles an hour unless the radio is cranked up, so I'll have to test that out with the radio turned down.

the only noises I notice at high speed are when the wind enters the channel where the side mirrors are and makes noise... it may just be the side mirrors

It's wind noise from the doors, windows, etc. It's worse when the weather is cold and the metal contracts a bit.
I find it much easier driving the Cube into my garage in the cold weather because the metal contracts. Summertime is tough, though. It would be nice if I could fold the mirrors in electrically.
