Front license plate

YAY or NAY?!

I know they're required to post in my state, yet I see A TON of cars out there w/o 'em. I know they just haven't been cited yet. It's only a matter of time before I get pulled over ***knocks on wood***.

Anyways, from an aesthetic standpoint, I think the Cubes look much more cleeeean. But, what are your experiences with having (or make that not having) your front plate displayed?

No front plate. My bonehead dealer drilled all the cubes they had, including the krom ones. I am so mad, they drilled my too. You can always install the front plate after you get a fix it ticket, and even then, just use doublesided tape, get the ticket written off and then take it off again.
I think it looks nice and clean without it, but unfortunately my state (IL) you have to have front plates. :(

Has your state recently added that front plates are needed? If so, maybe you can say you didn't know! ;)
I actually asked my dealer to put the front mount on my cube. I've gotten used to having a vanity plate on the front, and the mount for the cube actualy doesn't take that much away from the asthetics.
No front plate here.. gonna see if I can't whip up a mount that uses he tow hook, so I don't have to drill into the bumper

There are several of these around for the MINI, you might find a MINI owner and see if the tow hook has the same threads....I'd not be surprised.

Then you could use

or

no, I did NOT say they were inexpensive...

I may even go the retractable route. I still like the cleeean face of the Cube w/o the plates. I saw some motorized ones on the net for ~$150. Now that would be nice!

I was looking at mine yesterday and noticed the tech from the dealer put it on crooked. How hard is this to do?? I guess I'm just being anal but come on.
how bout trying something like this for the tow hook? the bolt sizes aren't for our Cube, but you get the point...

went the retractable route. i'm leaving it up for most of my daily driving. Down when I'm parked fo' show.

Couple detail shots:

DOWN (hidden)

UP

I don't quite get the whole front plate thing. We don't even need to put tabs on em out here. I figure it gives our LEOs an opportunity to get better reflectivity for revenue-generating tickets.

Hey guys

Is there a HUGE gap between the lic. plate and the bumper when using the tow hook mount?

I was considering something like this

http://shop.microimageonline.com/Tow-Hook-License-Plate-Bracket-GMG-Cube.htm

I wanted to get the one on the MINI accessory website ^^^ above posts but not sure if that fits the cube? does it?

thanks!

Speaking of license plates, in NY it is illegal to have protective plastic over the license plates, although quite a few people use them. I've never gotten a good reason for this law, but since when do laws need good reasons?

I was pulled over in Upstate for plate covers and the Trooper explained to me that is was an obstruction. Alot of times with the tinted plate covers you can't see the plate until your on top of it. But the cop let me go with a warning.

I have tinted ones on the cube now and I've never gotten pulled over in RI for it.. Damn NY.. ;)
I'm surprised he let you off with a warning. Issuing traffic tickets has become a big source of income around here. The local state police use Suburbans to issue speeding tickets. Most people don't expect a Suburban - even when it's clearly painted like a police car - to be issuing tickets. They fool a lot of people with those big cars. We have a four-lane highway with a 45 mph speed limit. That's the area where they partol.
