Hey all,

One of the customizations I was looking into for the cube is the possibility of those underbody light kits and wheel well light kits that you will see sometimes. I was just at 7-11 and decided to ask a cop what was illegal and what was legal in relation to those kits. Note: just like insurance bieng voided it is viewed as always legal to buy, but the second you install/use it, it will become illegal (or a violation of your insurance policy).

What he said was as far as FEDERAL Ordinance goes (he is a federal police officer) no light kit is street legal in the United States that resembles or mimics Emergency and law inforcement lights. So No Red or Blue lights, or anything that strobes. Basically if it can confuse someone into thinking they need to pull over for something it's illegal.
Also he seguested finding out what additional ordinances may apply in the county(s) you drive in.

I did not know there were Federal Police officers (other than those that enforce law on a Federal park /authority) or FBI /etc. ;)

As far as Neon lighting goes.. you really need to differ to your state laws and local ordinances. There is no hard. or fast rule to apply to neon.. Some states do not care about it at all.. while others will issue you a citation.

As far as being 'illegal' with your insurance company.. Call your agent / ins. rep. and ask if installing neon lights will void your policy. I've not hear of an insurer dropping a client because of neon lights.. but.. they may not cover them if they are damaged. Again.. seek clarity for your particular situation.

Hi All, olyumabill here. I live part time in 3 states, Ore, Ca, and Arziona. I have installed an underbody light kit on my cube. It is 378 lights with 7 colors. I know of NO state where you you can drive on the street with the lights on. Off street is another matter, and can be done anywhere. I enjoy my light kit and it always draws a crowd. Out here in the West you may find some low riders driving with their lights on, on the street but do so only if you want a ticket. By the way Nissan tells me, THat I am the oldest person they know of that has purchased a cube. I'm 83 1/2 years old. bill
