So I read in the Owner's Manual that drive-through car washes often have acid in them that can damage our beautiful paint jobs.

I want to keep my Cube looking gorgeous, but I don't want to be hand-washing her all the time - what do you do?

I would love it if it's not true. I read it in the Owner's Manual and then asked the service dude at the dealership and he acted like he'd never heard that before. Why would they put stuff in the Owner's Manual if it's not true, though?

Oh WOW, I didn't know it was in the manual. I'll have to see if some class action lawyer wants to take this case on. I'd love to see Nissan get screwed because of their lies. There is no conspiracy among car washes to ruin your paint, unless you consider SOAP an evil acid that only genuine Nissan parts can counteract.

I strongly advise staying away from drive thru car washes.

You have no idea how dirty the car was before you. Could have been a muddy truck or car, thus the grit is still in the spinning brushes and pads that rub over your car. You would never take a sponge or mit you just dropped and pick it up, apply to car to wash would you? You would rinse it first right? Who is rinsing the auto wash between uses?

Ok so I will be telling on my self here.

The mechanics of a touch-less car wash cannot / do not work. This requires the physical application of force to remove grime from the paint. The mechanical bond of grime cannot be removed by application of fluid and chemical alone.

These will remove heavy dirt but the film will remain. Even the auto wash does a piss poor job at cleaning the car as most cars have a curve on the bottom and the auto wash is flat thus leaving dirt on the lower portion of the vehicle.

Also if you open the doors you see the pillars and sills need washing too, auto cant do that.

Love your ride and show it some love with a good hand wash ;)

Never used a car wash since my old Chevy Caprice got paint gouges right across the hood about 3 inches apart.
I am sure that there was a sharp object embedded in those rotary brushes.
The car wash people said it was not their fault.
I don't know if they even use those rotary brushes any-more as it has been many years since I used their services.
Hand wash is better as you can give the body work a quick check for paint chips or other damage etc.
The metallic K31 twilight/platinum/steel/gunmetal grey does not show the dirt well at all so I can go a long time between washes.
Cheers.

Oh yes,

Many years ago someone slipped into the auto-wash (they are open) and super glued pachinko balls to a few of the tassels.
Ohhhhh it smoked that car. The driver could do nothing but sit there. They made a report but again like above the gas station was not liable. It was clearly posed that the GS was not liable.

Bucket, sponge, auto soap, hose, time, cost $0.50 8) Good tunes and sun rays $0.00 8)
