Bluetooth is giving me the blues

One of the reasons I got the SL instead of the S was for bluetooth connectivity. And since July 13 when I got my SL, I was able to enjoy handsfree calling with my Nokia E65 without problems (actually my phone would sometimes freeze if I was turning the engine on/off while running errands but I just thought that was because the E65 is not one of the "Nissan approved" phones). But as of yesterday I have had ZERO bluetooth connectivity. My phone is simply unable to connect anymore. The car system says no phones are paired. I tried re-pairing, which worked, but as soon as the system says "Do you want a custom ring tone?" and I reply (yes or no), the system closes and my phone is still not connected. Tried my wife's E65, still no success. Tried my Samsung Blackjack, again no success. Went to the dealer and the service guy tried his LG phone, same problem. Now my dealer says I have to bring the car in for service but I am wondering what the hell is going on. My only explanation is that I cancelled my XM radio trial on October 12. But how can XM radio subscription affect bluetooth? Makes no sense at all.

Personally, I'd tried disconnecting the Cube's battery for a couple of minutes to give everything a hard reset and try pairing again.
I just disconnected the battery and then tried. Now I can't even get the bluetooth to come on. Pressing on the steering controls doesn't do anything. My phone cannot find any bluetooth devices to connect to either. So I guess my bluetooth really got fried somehow.
Yes, I m saying there is ZERO activity with bluetooth. It's as if I don't have it in my car. The steering wheel controls cannot turn it on at all.
So, after a week in the shop, my SL is back. They had to replace the whole bluetooth module. Not sure if I will be billed for this yet, but they said they are talking to Nissan to see if my warranty covered this. Now I am no longer interested in using my Nokia E65 and I am switching back to the Samsung Blackjack (which is approved by Nissan to use in the Cube). I hope others who are using non-approved phones will do the same.

Is Nissan implying that by using a non approved cell phone you damaged the Cube’s Bluetooth system?

I’m certainly not a connectivity expert but I have a hard time understanding how that could happen. I would think either the Bluetooth system recognizes your phone or it doesn’t. How could using a non approved phone damage it?

Well, they have not said that my E65 killed the module. It's only that this is the first time that anyone has ever brought in a nissan (all types of nissans) in which the bluetooth module has completely died and they have to replace it, so they don't know how the warranty coverage is assessed. They will find out if I have to pay for the fix or not. My dealer is the Autobarn (and they are a major Nissan dealer here in Illinois), so for them to have never had the same problem is a bit of a mystery. I actually think that my bluetooth module may have been busted from the beginning because it always had a hard time hearing my commands (but now it hears everything I say, even when I am talking with my head bowed down) and I noticed that I always had an exclamation mark on top of the bluetooth symbol on the radio display, which is now gone. I thought that exclamation point was a microphone symbol or something to indicate that my mic is on so I ignored it, but I guess it was a warning that something is not right. I have checked to manual for any reference to the symbols that should appear in the radio display, but so far I cannot say for sure. All the manual says is something about Time, RDS, CD info, iPOD info, and XM info. They don't even mention the bluetooth symbol that I see in the display.

Thanks, I'll certainly not let them rip me off.
