Does any one else find the advertisements in the threads to be rather annoying? I'm not here to look at ads, I'm here to discuss the cube!

Agreed, the 300x250 ads from "Nissan Cube Life" that essentially run as individual posts are extremely intrusive. I don't mind the 728x90 on top or the two 160x600's on the left (although they should actually appear on the right), but the 300x250 ads need to go. User experience and site appearance should outweigh the need for several ads.

Keep in mind that this is a FREE site and we do not intend to charge for "premium" membership that gives certain users perks over others. This site was developed with user experience in mind, from the look, layout, and little quirks here and there. I'm sure these are the reasons that made Cube Life stand out from the other Cube forums. There are countless forums out there that have similar ad placements (yes, in the posts as well).

BTW, are you the authority on ad placement stating where they should appear?!

These ads are a minor nuisance that help to keep the site going. A great deal of time was/is put into the site. For the peeps who can deal with the ads, thanks for your understanding. 8)

Hey Dylan,

The way we see it, when we get more vendors/manufacturers to support Cube Life, there will be less need for the other ads.

We prefer to keep the site as FREE as possible for the community, but just to get some feedback, are there Cubers on here who are willing to subscribe to a premium membership just to get rid of the ads?

I think the site is great, best overall I have ever been part of. I am not trying blow smoke or earn brownie points. I AM saying that overall the admins of this site have let the site develope and grow with little intrusion on its development like in other sites that have an under my thumb feel. Look at Amnesiac, the guy has 69 posts  that should say something.

Ads pay for uptime, like comercials during a TV show, just take what you can and enjoy what you have VS what you dont have.

The only ads that bug me at all are the ads in the middle of the posts... and that's just because it takes a second to realize where the ad begins and ends. But as stated it's a free site and I understand that ads are necessary to keep it free. I actually like the ebay ads on the left side... it's nice to see what's available for the Cube while I'm reading posts.

@Amnesiac, I completely understand why there are ads because it does require a time commitment by the site founders/developers. My point was that this site has one ad placement too many (i.e. the 300x250), and it's clear that everyone else agrees. Furthermore, message boards require very little maintainence and ALL of the content is contributed by the user, not the site. If the site and it's authors contibuted valuable content (e.g. Autoblog, ESPN, etc) then I'd see the need for additional ads, but again, it's the user base that is providing the content. So, all we're asking is that you take our user feedback into consideration.

Also, there is no need for condescending "who makes you the authority" comments. I provided you with honest, polite feedback and I would expect the same friendly feedback in return from the moderators here. Furthermore, I actually would call myself an expert (not an authority) when it comes to digital advertising and website design because it's what I've done for a living for the last decade. The fact that I called out the three primary ad sizes by the IAB in the above post should've given you some indication that I know what I'm talking about. I also know that four ad impressions are served on each of your page loads and that including two dozen subject categories equates to more ad impressions (I'm sure the site will sustain itself with 3 ads per page instead of 4). I'm also deeply familiar with CPM, CPC, etc ad rates, ad networks, behavioral targeting, Google AdSense and AdWords, 3rd party ad serving and much more. In other words, I'm well aware of how the digital advertising industry works and what the benchmarks are.

To recap, I really dig the site just not the 300x250 ad placement, I think this is a great community of Cube owners and enthusiasts that will only grow as more Cubes are sold. Keep up the good work and your ear on the ground for us visitors! Thanks :)

whtbst,

I do agree that content on forums are provided by the community base, but I DEFINITELY have to disagree with you that they require very little maintenance. Like CK has mentioned above, I may not post much and prefer to stay out of people's hair but I do spend most of my time here making sure the site runs smoothly, seeing if everyone's happy, site backups, coming up with new ways to improve the site, regular maintenance, etc. If you don't think I take into consideration of user feedback, you haven't been around here long enough to know that I do. I think I've done pretty decent job at considering user feedback as compared to some of the other commercial forums out there. This topic has been up for nearly two months with two comments and just today has made it back into the spotlight. Just because a new member has revived it does not tell me that "everyone" on here feels the same way. On the other hand, if there had been more comments on this topic beforehand, that would make me think differently.

I did not mean to sound condescending, but was just like "who is this guy to tell me where to place ads". Don't think that I didn't do my homework before considering anything for this site. Like the eBay ad, I wasn't just going to plop just any eBay ad but thought to post one that the community could use while frequenting Cube Life. On deciding on where to place the ads, I got it from the authority........ GOOGLE! lol. ;)

Anyways, as I've stated in an earlier reply, please just put up with the little annoyances until we feel less need for these ad placements. I think the positives on this site far outweigh what little thing that makes us ticked. That's it from me....
