Decided to install fog lights that have LED halos. I tapped into the DRL circuit in the engine bay fuse box. Much to my surprise it’s a live circuit. I assumed that that the car had to be on or in “drive” for the circuit to power on. Any suggestions? I really don’t want to go through the firewall to find an accessory tap

I don't know if you want to do this much, but I added two fuse panels to my car. One is powered directly from the battery, so it's always live. The other one is powered by the car's fuse panel, and it's live only when the ignition is switched on. You can add toggle switches to the always-live circuits, so you always have power available, but it's more controllable. I did this for three additional 12v outlets.

If you're not comfortable doing it, don't. I always find a grommet in the firewall and poke a hole through that. If you have a good local mechanic, he could install a fuse panel for you.
