I'm betting they aren't just going thru the effort of making this engine U.S legal for the new cheap versa. My guess is this will be the engine in the Cube.

The new Versa 1.6 looks to be essentially the same Versa/Tilda sold outside of the U.S. with a smaller 1.6 liter engine. The four-cylinder puts out 107 horsepower in U.S. configuration, Nissan says, and comes with a standard five-speed manual transmission and offers a four-speed automatic as an extra-cost option.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I highly doubt they'd go through all the tooling to make it available in a small amount of buttom line Versa's. Its good to see Nissan didn't stuff a big engine in it. I do think there will be a slightly more powerful engine for higher models though.

HUZZAH!

I'm calling it.
This is our [US Nissan Cube] engine, folks!
I think it will meet the 26/31MPG mark, plus or minus 1.
Not to give up hope for plus 2, but existing numbers for similar cars make that remote.

I'd be happy with 107hp outta a 1.6L, that roughly the same as my current car ('03 MINI Cooper), and the weight is the same. So I'd be looking at similar performance. Although I don't believe that the Cube will be geared as "sporty" as my Cooper. It'd be really nice if Nissan gave the Cube a 6 speed manual if anything to literally cruise on long trips.

I was hoping for the bench and the CVT.
