Folks,
I have followed this car for such a long time until I finally found out the truth.
I am disappointed for the following reasons and think maybe the KIA Soul is a better buy:
1) no sunroof for N. Americans-so we have to look at that stupid water drop (that will make me go nuts.
2) no e-drive for -N. Americans -we get stupid traction control instead, big deal. I rather have e-drive since it is so different
and actually a hybrid since the real wheels power themselves via electric motor.

I was really looking forward to these features and the dumb website makes reference to it, but we don't get it.
That is a tease and 1/2. Why don't we get these cool things? Why do we always get the blander versions.
This is what makes me angry about Japanese companies. They cut the good stuff out for us all the time.

Good luck to all of you, I'm done.

Woody.

I am in complete agreement with you. Been following this for years. Checking out the photos on Edmunds today and just like the early images...they have in fact rounded the A and B pillars and more importantly kept the A pillars painted body color. Visually this is a huge step backwards. While Scion blackened the pillars on the new Xb....Nissan chooses to copy..I mean follow the old Xb and keep them body colored?..very sad..Perhaps Nissan wants the Cube to look like the old Xb and fill the void created when the Xb became more "cough" refined..And speaking of blackened A pillars...I'm now 90% sure I will buy the Kia Soul...with 10% reserved for the actual test drive.

Who is going to buy a car with this type of headliner? How can Goshen approve of this? Was he on crack?
Nissan's development team misinterpreted US market tastes by a long shot. The headliner should
be left flat and maybe offered in different colors to compliment the multi-tone interior. We do want something different but not
something pathetic. The "water drop design" will not age gracefully, but will be a reminder of designer stupidity. This will hurt re-sale.
The Japanese themselves are lucky, they get the optional sunroof instead of that "thing".
If I were to ever get this, I would rip out the liner and install some after-market material in it's place or get Jeremy Clarkson to take care of this.

Nissan, I beg you to send us the sunroof now. We have been waiting too long.

Look below regarding e-4wd, they contradicted themselves here.

I don't think it's the car companies that decide to make everything here in N.A. bland, I'd blame that on the standards that we have restricting them from giving us the cool, fun, tech that are available overseas. We're all paranoid in our little bubble in N.A. and want to be "safe" in our vehicles. That's why the bumpers have been beefed up and no skylight panel (not protective enough ::)).

I do agree about bumper standards, but I kind of feel that if Ford can sell their new Mustang with a very large glass roof, why can't this thing?
I don't mind spending $ 22, 000 for this thing if it had all the JDM features, but I think maybe Nissan dealers are afraid that this might take away from the Rogue if it came with AWD and a moon roof. Also, folks want more power here so maybe the larger engine caused engineers to re -create our cabin to accommodate a CVT. Who knows? I just hope they change their minds...

You know I like it, I like the six speed manual trans. I guess it's got 122 hp so it the same as the Versa. The whole "raindrop" theme is kinda cool and I can get it in BROWN! I really like the back end, I love the way the taillights are set up! The front end has grown on me a lot too. A lot of people seem to dislike the new model, but we'll just have to wait until spring I guess to see if it really grew on people.

Well Goon,

I guess if you like the US Spec, go for it.
If I get one of these, I'm going to see if they use the same electric motor as the old(maybe on ebay) to power the AWD
and do the modification(running cables and a mont behind the muffler) myself via or get my hands on a Canadian version if it differs.
As far as the headliner, maybe the Versa has similar dimensions and I can do a mod of that or see
what Canada has.

The way I see it, I'm GLAD that we are finally getting the Cube at all in the US (finally!). Heck, there's gonna be some things that will disappoint, but I would rather have Cube over no Cube at all. Guess my glass is always half full. :)

I the like mpg numbers, love the new interior (even with the water drop headliner), and the overall look is more modern than the last gen. I do agree that the headliner may not age well, but it's a minor thing. e4WD is not a big factor for me, as I don't really see the need for it when I'm cruising around town and I won't be taking it out into the bush or be driving in snow most of the year anyways.

As I live in Phoenix, I don't need the AWD. As I want a Cube as an economical family 4 door to go along with my "fun" car ( a Honda del Sol ) so I've got the cool roof thing covered already too. I have been waiting for the Cube to show up and still think it will be the car I'll get come spring.I thought about a scion xD but that 1 lonely gauge in the dashboard was a constant reminder you were sitting in a stripper. And while I think the kia Soul is also in the same class, and has the same appeal, I really fear that Kia resale value free-fall. It's still a call for me as they haven't set a price yet. if one comes in about 17,500 with A/C ,A/T , P/W/M/D ,cruise, & alarm. . . I'm there. Otherwise my car $$$ are still up for grabs.

Also I had been in touch with a Nissan dealer a few months ago and gave them my contact info for when they will know anything and got this today:

The no e-AWD...sure sorta sucks, but I know that at the end of the day I would not buy the eAWD model anyway because to me it wouldn't be worth it. I am in Chicago and there is maybe only 2 or 3 days the whole year when I'd come in handy. The lack of skyview panel also bothers me little. I never had a car with a sunroof, mostly because on all cars where it is an option, it is a very pricey option, typically in a $1000 ballpark. Maybe I am just different, but to me $1000 add-on to a $16000 car is HUGE, and again, hardly worth it, I can just crack some windows.

That said, I am very happy with the appearance. The back is perfect, the front I can get used to. I actually WANT the body color pillars..etc

I am sure the skyroof/sunroof will show up stateside soon...and I am willing to bet it will be offered as soon a Nissan figures out the option list. A sunroof is a huge priority for me as I consider the cube as my next car....it was also a factor as to why I did not buy a Fit (before the 09 model)...but now that the 09 Fit has a skyroof, it will a tough call for me. Nissan has to consider the Fit in the US with the spring launch so let's see what happens with the official work, web site update, brochure, etc.

I was interested in the e4wd but when I found out it only works up to 25MPH I say not thanks.

As for the sunroof, all my cars have sunroofs but I rarely use it so it doesn't bother me if Nissan doesn't offer it as an option.

As for the headliner, I don't recall looking at my headliner that much. Come to think of it, how often you look at the headliner anyway?

The deal killer for me will be the MPG and Price. Brochure says 30 MPG + . If it turns out 31 MPG and a sticker of 16k... No Thanks.

Well, if it has at least one of the prize options, I'm sold. Again, I think these should be options since not everyone wants one of these things, but it is good for marketing. The Mini offers over a 1.000 different confirmations with each option costing you a bundle. People knew about this and they loved the flexibility or customization, but it doesn't mean you have to spend over $ 32,000 for something cute and nimble. This is the philosophy behind a quirky car= value + looks + safety + economy + cool and different options.

Did everyone over sleep today, not many blogs todays.

I get stuck nearly always when there is a big snow storm in Canada and e4wd will add a little boost i need to get out of sticky situations.
I mean, in Canada nearly every gets the 4wd drive version of the Honda Element so I sure hope they give us that option.

As for sunroof. I guess its not important for me, since half the year, we dont get any sun up here anyways compared to you U.S. guys, but the raindrop teardrop thing on the ceiling gives me the creeps.

As for other things.... I actually liked the bench seats.....(while most of you guys dont seem to like it) I thought they would be much better for sex in the car (kidding).
