Any guesses as to what 55-65 would do to that number? If I could get consistently over 30 MPG, the Cube may be my new car.

Re: Miles per Gallon so far?

I'm betting an easy 35 at 55-60 MPH using the AutoPilot, once the motor is broken in. It IS a box, so the aerodynamics are gonna kill ya above 65 MPH. For those who have to drive in rush hour traffic and such (to keep up with traffic flow) it may not be the best high speed commuter car. Still, I think 35 is a realistic number.

If you're a fairly conservative driver I don't see 30+ being an issue. I just keep pace with the majority of the other vehicles leaving the light or keep pace with the pack in the left lane on the highways. Nothing drives me crazier then the echo driver in the left lane holding everyone up so that's not what I'm trying to be. I'm no speed demon in my cube though. For as little horse power as the car has, 1/4 throttle is all that's required to keep up. I still haven't put the peddle to the floor. That's not what I bought the car for.

Edit: I hope that made sense. I got 28.7mpg just driving normally on a high speed highway. Not speeding around or romping on it but also not driving super conservatively. I'm sure setting the cruise at 55 on a 55mph highway would yield much better results. This highway happened to be a 75mph 2 lane with 2 options. Sit behind the truckers in the right at 60-65mph or keep up with the flow of traffic in the left lane.

For those that want to do it PLEASE be aware of those behind you. I know you're technically doing the right thing but if you could see the miles of backup from an observation point other then your own front window you'll see 2 plus miles of traffic being held up behind you and aggravated drivers swerving in and out of traffic putting me and others in harms way. Just please let them through.

Re: Miles per Gallon so far?

I've got some updating. I hit 1200 miles in my Cube on Monday night. It is all broken in now, It will be two weeks old tomorrow. During the break in, I did my best not to use the cruise control and I mostly drove localy.

Fillup #1
average speed was 39mph
263 miles on that tank
real MPG=33.2mpg
computer mpg=33.8mpg
Cube took 7.919 gallons of gas

Fillup #2
Average speed was 34mph
153.1 miles on that tank
real MPG=30.32mpg
computer mpg=31.2mpg
Cube took 5.049 gallons of gas

Fillup #3
Average speed was 34mph
222.8 miles on that tank
real MPG=29mpg
Computer mpg=30.8mpg
Cube took 7.667 gallons of gas

Fillup #4
Average speed was 30mph
231miles on that tank
Real MPG=28.09mpg
computer mpg=29.4mpg
Cube took 8.222 gallons of gas

Fillup #5
Average speed was 42mph
269.2 miles on that tank
Real MPG=29.16mpg
computer mpg=31.0mpg
Cube took 9.229 gallons of gas

The overal average of the five tanks and 1139.1 miles is = 29.954mpg
According to the MPG display, I got 31.24mpg, so, it is quite a bit off and read high every single time.

$88.13 in gas for 1139.1 miles doesn't seem to shabby to me!

Re: Miles per Gallon so far?

Thanks for the good info ewraven!!

1 mpg is not too far off though in the difference between actual and computed mpg. I have seen where other cars were really off when compared to the actual mpg like 5mpg or more. Plus you have to factor in human error and such like maybe one fill up the pump shut off early or another pump filled the fuel tank to the brim ect... Anyway mpg for our cubes looks pretty good! I have not had to fill mine up yet!!

Re: Miles per Gallon so far?

Thanks for the update. Sounds like its pretty consistent among everyone. I'm really thinking I want one now. After months of looking at Hondas, Scions and Toyotas.

Re: Miles per Gallon so far?

I'm not a fan of left lane slow pokes either (I'm a right lane speed limit or better driver). The worst part is when they won't get over even though there is a long line of PO'ed drivers behind them.

I don't understand it either. The ones swerving all over the place think they have more important places to go and the speed limit or less drivers in the left lane think they're doing the right thing so they shouldn't have to move or be pushed. That's great for them but everyone else gets stuck in their messes. A little common courtesy would go so much farther at making the roads safer and more enjoyable.

So to answer your earlier question about locking the cruise at a lower speed. 70% of this last tank was done in the city in off peak times (little to no traffic) and 30% highway driving off peak. This time I was able to lock the cruise at 65mph on the wide part of the 60. When I filled up this morning I put 9.97 gallons in and trip calculator read 310.5miles driven. That's 31.14 for my normal driving at lower speeds. Not bad at all I can't believe I put 1300+ miles on my car in 2weeks. All these gas saving added up to more fishing up North and way more miles driven.

Re: Miles per Gallon so far?

re-post from another section:

My cube is a 6-speed, and yeah shifting is really smooth. It feels almost like a sports shift to me.
The clutch is reeally short, so it would be easier for beginers. The reverse is a pain in the ass though, I'm getting used to it but still, ergh.

As far as MPG goes I think the rated 24/29 is bull corn! I've driven it aprox. 150 miles and it's still at 3/4 tank. it's 13 gallon so Ive prolly burned between 3-4 gallons, and A/C has been on half the time and it has mostly been Highway 55-70 MpH speed. So I think it's safe to say Im getting at least 35 MpG and prolly somewhere between that and 50 MpG.

Also you can switch(toggle) your trip meter to display fuel efficiency rate (instead) as you drive.

When I'm accellerating its in the 20s, foot lightly on the gas it averages 47MpG and coasting is 60 MpG.

LOVE the digital Fuel guage by the way I hate the old "sundial" type that usually gets flakey after a cold winter or if it gets too low at some point, I've been waiting for this in my auto for a looong time.

UPDATE! My current mileage is 225 and my fuel guage is halfway between 1/2 and 3/4 tank (10/16 "beads") A/C on most of the time, driving on the highway vast majority of the time.
