Fuel Capacity

I just bought a 2012 Cube.  When it starts the 50 miles until empty count down, it only reads for about 10 miles or so and then goes blank.  Then when the guage only has one tick left I fill it up, but it will not take more than 10 gal, and the book says it has a 13.2 gal tank.  Is this a common issue?  Is it under warranty?

I would believe that, even if it ''state'' you still can drive for X miles/km, by safety, it will tell you do fill it up. But I assume that there's more still in there than what the gauge want you to believe. I've never drive mine until it get dry out of gas, but yes, the gauge ain't that accurate.

That's usually about the average amount it takes to fill mine up. I usually never let it go down below the 50 miles area though. And when it gets there it takes me roughly 10 - 10.5 gallons.

Keep in mind if you run your car completely out of gas you will eventually destroy your fuel pump. The fuel keeps it cool, so that is why it shows empty when you still have some left.

Oh, BOY, have I noticed this issue.  Talk about "Your mileage may vary", right?

I stopped paying attention to that alert after I had been registered on Fuelly.com for awhile and was able to get a good sample group of what the car's range was based on my driving habits (which are actually pretty conservative considering the engine mods that have been added) and the amount of driving I do each day.

I've found that by the time the display is completely blank (i.e., no "lines" show) I've got MAYBE another day's worth of driving I can do.  If I think I'm running too close for comfort I just wait until I've been driving for 450 miles since my last fill-up and re-fuel then.

Disclaimer:  I ran completely out of gas yesterday morning (within a few hundred yards of a gas station) for the first time doing this, but my driving habits during that tankful were not typical and I had ranged out at 458 miles by then.
