Nice I wonder if they will offer conversions of current cubes to electric, and of corse how much that would cost.
I would propose that the stimulus money/tax refund suppliments should provide compensation for people converting their cars if possible. DJ

as far as i know, nissan does plan on mass-producing an electric car for the 'states soon, but it probably won't have the cube chassis

i can't wait to see what it will actually look like, though!

Unfortunately, Cubes are not terribly aero efficient, so that would hurt range. The Leaf is designed from the ground up to be an EV and the drag coeffeicnt is one of the best of all vehicles.
I spent a LOT of time in the Leaf last summer and in the Volt last autumn. I wish we could take a chance on a Leaf. That's me in this pre-production car last July

I think building niche cars like sports cars as the poster childs for EV is the right thing to do. They sell in small numbers anyways and the typical owners are early adopters.

Maybe the Leaf sell in small numbers compared to others cars models, but does way better than the cube, but still, there is a reservation list on them and they found a buyer who waited to have it.
Number sales were at more than 15 000 by mid-october. While the Volt...did 4000...

Not a fan of electric cars...the range and recharging time just make them too inconvenient to deal with for my liking.
I'm coming around to hybrids, though...a hybrid Cube would be pretty sweet.
If you really want to support a car that uses strictly renewable energy, I suggest you read up on the Honda FCX Clarity. Runs off a fuel cell, powered by hydrogen. The only emissions are water. And they are refueled essentially the same way internal combustion vehicles are...gas stations. So you don't have the range issue that you do with electrics.

If you've never heard of 'em, it's because for now (in North America) they are available on a "lease-only" basis in Southern California.
