CVT TRANSMISSION SURGE 2010 CUBE

I have a 2010 Cube with just 10000 km/6000 miles and the dealer has ordered a new CVT transmission because of the surge problem. The transmission and engine had to be warmed to operating temp for the problem to occur. At speeds of 80km/50miles per hour and above the transmission would surge and the rpm would spike by 500 rpm just for a second or two. This would generally happen at 1500 to 2000 and 2000 to 2500 rpm while driving on level roads. Did not notice this problem going uphill or while under load (accelerating etc.) The surging became more frequent over a couple of weeks so I took it to the dealer and they said it was definitely a CVT issue and ordered a new one. I will let you know how the replacement works out. The transmission is on back order and not expected untill mid April.

Re: CVT TRANSMISSION SURGE 2010 CUBE

So I guess this problem is not only on 2009 models.

This is not what I wanted to hear. But do keep us posted. I'll be watching it closely.

We're due for our first service next weekend. Currently just past 3,750 miles. Haven't noticed any funny business with the transmission, and hope we don't. Maybe your Cube got one of the 2009-spec transmissions at point of assembly? Wouldn't be unheard of to have some lag time in parts changeover for something like this.

Re: CVT TRANSMISSION SURGE 2010 CUBE

Funny, my 2010 SL started surging right after getting onto the freeway tonight. At around 65-70, just barely move your foot on the gas and it would jump up 1000 rpm. Was OK on the way home, though. It has done this a few times before at around 3000 miles. My day is coming, I'm afraid.

Re: CVT TRANSMISSION SURGE 2010 CUBE

I just had the Cvt replaced on my 2010 Cube at 73,000 kilometres. Problem was rpm surging from 200 to 300 rpm with a jump of 500 every once an awhile with an immediate cutback causing a an observable shudder/thud. Lucky for me I was near an excellent dealership who arranged for a free rental for the time it took to obtain and replace the cvt unit (3 days). All done under warranty. For those who have noticed sluggish acceleration after starting the vehicle, I was told that this is a computer problem, normally fixed by shutting down the vehicle and restarting. This re-inits the computer.

I bought a used 2010 Cube from a Chevy dealer in July and it just started to do this same thing at 55000 miles. I took it to a Nissan dealer (Boucher Nissan)to get it checked out and they are going to replace the CVT "no charge". Now THAT is standing behind your product!!
I had a similar situation with a Dodge mini-van (tranny went out shortly after purchase with 50k on it) and had to "pay up" even though they know they are a weak link.
Not happy for the failure...but happy as he!! that Nissan is taking care of it!
